Depave Chicago held two workshops in Summer 2022, to be followed by an actual depave pilot project (“Workshop #3”). The workshops provided information to participants about all the steps involved in completing a depave project. The workshops were free for everyone and webinar recordings are available by request. We also invite anyone who wants specific training as a crew leader to contact us. Stipends are available for this special training.

    Depave project partnering, site selection and equity, roles and expectations for site hosts and partners, funding strategies, community-centered design, site investigations such as soil testing, design guidance, permitting, insurance, contractors and volunteers, and budgeting projects!

    Physical process of depaving, event planning and execution, excavation and hauling, planting events, and post-depave monitoring!

  • Workshop #3

    TBD, we’re working on it!

    This workshop is an actual hands-on, trained and supervised depaving project where we depave a real project site! This event includes a 1/2 day classroom session on removal techniques, use of tools, safety protocols and oversight, and soil testing demo to be followed by the full-day depave event! - This workshop will take place at TMSOE in West Englewood, where we’re currently working with the school, CPS, and others to develop and approve the project.

Volunteer opportunities take place during the actual depave days (when we actually remove the pavement ourselves!) and during planting days which take place over the days and weeks that follow a depave event.
